Village hall communications

The Village Hall Committee has created a dedicated email list to use as a speedy method of letting you know about future village events. If you were not on the old Community Action Group list and want to be included on the proposed new list or would like to know more please email:sinningtonvhcomms@gmail.com

Christmas coffee morning: Saturday 7th December at 10.30 am. Coffee, mince pies, goodies and a raffle

Village Christmas lunch. Thursday 12th December 12.30 for 1.00 pm. Please book in advance with Helen. 01751 432504 or browesy@aol.com. Normal lunches start on January 9th with the first hot lunch on February 6th.

Games night Monday 27th January and 24th February

Christmas coffee morning & raffle: All are welcome to the Christmas Coffee morning, which will be held in the Village Hall on Saturday, December 7th, at 10.30 am. Come along and enjoy some lovely refreshments, including mince pies! Contributions of raffle prizes and mince pies for these events are very welcome.

CHRISTMAS QUIZ. Village Hall on Monday 2nd December (£2 per person) PLEASE ring or text PAUL on 07850 636658 to book your place. The Christmas quiz is always popular so book early as places are limited – 10 teams of 6 max! Don’t forget – wear your Christmas jumper, bring your own drinks and nibbles.

Next dates are 6th January, 3rd February, 3rd March and 7th April 2025 £2/person.

BOOKING SECRETARY WANTED After several years as Booking Secretary for the Village Hall, sadly, Tracey has decided to step down. Many thanks to Tracey for carrying out this task so successfully for an important village community asset. This now means an opportunity has arisen to become involved in the regular hiring of the Village Hall. As Booking Secretary, you would be the main point of contact for visitors and parties hiring this venue. Looking to the future, the possibility of on-line booking may be explored so this is an exciting opening to be in at the start of this venture. Dog Fouling

We would just like to remind all Residents and Visitors, to Sinnington, to please pick up after their dog. There have been a few incidents of owners failing to pick up, which is a finable offence and a serious health hazard. Thank you to the responsible owners that do.

Sinnington Parish Council

Sinnington is a picturesque village located just off the A170 between Pickering and Kirkbymoorside part within the North York Moors National Park. The village name originates from medieval times and was known as the ‘settlement on the Seven’ after the river which runs through. There are approximately 280 residents living in a wide range of properties.

The village has a 12th-century church, a school, an inn (the Fox and Hounds), a village hall and a chapel built in the 1800’s. By the church stands a Medieval hall built around the same time and was once possibly an early chapel, a rectory and a tithe barn in later years.

On the village green stands a Maypole which is used on May Day for traditional dancing at the annual Mayfair. Close by is a very old Packhorse bridge of unknown original purpose and at the southern end of the village, there is a Pinfold formerly used to keep escaped farm animals.

Much of the village history is recorded by the Sinnington Local History Group which has published a village map and guide that provides local information for visitors. A copy can be purchased from the Fox and Hounds Inn on Main Street or from the History Group.

Visitors can also find local information on a village information board next to the village green.
